Alcoholism

The social drinker drinks in moderation, does not abuse the drug and is not habituated to alcohol. The problem drinker “abuses the drug”

1. Alcoholism results in poor eating habits and can cause protein and vitamin deficiency signs.

2.  Alcohol is toxic to the liver, irrespective of the drinker’s health. Two drinks a day can cause fatty deposits in the liver. Heavy drinking can result in severe liver damage and vomiting of blood.

3. In heart patients, a single drink can reduce the efficiency of a damaged heart.

4.  Addiction to alcohol can result in psychological traits like estrangement from people, hostility, dependence, depression and chronic rage.

5. Sexual inadequacy and impotence are other complications.

6. Power of concentration and muscular reaction can be impaired by even a single drink. So do not try to drive a car even after one drink.

7.  Alcohol can cause brain damage.

                                DIET AND EXERCISE

1.  The more fat you have on your body, the more is the risk of straining  of  your Heart and developing Diabetes.

2.  If you are past the age of 25, the only way you can know that you are    putting on excess weight is to compare your weight against the        figures of desirable weights given in Standard Table chart. If you     weigh 20% more, you are obese.

3.  If you are over weight, the only solution is to reduce your food intake.   Any amount of exercise is not as good as reducing intake of food (rich          in calories)

4.   If you spend more calories in work than what you take from food you will lose weight. If you take more calories than what you spend. You      will gain weight it is all a question of calorie balance.

5.  Do not start on any dieting without consulting your Doctor and   Dietician.

6.  Have some regular, strenuous exercise, at least for half an hour each    day. Running, Cycling, Swimming, Brisk walking will help to reduce      your fat by removing excess calories.

7.  It has been proved that regular exercise can prevent heart attacks.

8.  Never start any exercise programme without getting a fitness certificate       from your family Physician.
