PATIENTS TAKING ALLOPATHIC MEDICATION
Treating these patients homeopathically demands a
great deal of practical experience and,
In addition, sufficient allopathic knowledge.
We can divide the allopathic medication into 3
groups:
*
Medication that is vital for the patient,
e.g. Insulin, heart drugs, anti-hypertensive. This
group can never be stopped abruptly (sometimes not at
all).
*
Medication that is necessary for the patient’s comfort,
e.g. painkillers. This group can be stopped without any
difficulty.
*
Medication that is necessary for the social
integration of the patient, e.g. major
psycho-
Active medication. This group can be decreased only in
certain circumstances.
*
Homoeopathic remedies can always be given together with
allopathic medication.
A
Correct remedy will
always give amilioration of the general energy.
Depending on the amelioration of the complaints, some
allopathic medication can be reduced. Obviously, the
reaction of a homoeopathic remedy will last for less
time when more or stronger allopathic medication is
taken (=antidote)
*
Experience teaches that some allopathic medication
causes little or no relapse heart drugs,
anti-hypertensive, common painkillers, mild
tranquillizers etc.
Anti-hypertensive
Anti- hypertensive usually poses no problems for
homoeopathic treatment, especially for patients with
moderate hypertension. You should give the homoeopathic
remedy indicated and let the patient take his anti-
hypertensive. Keep a close eye on the blood pressure. If
the blood pressure decreases, you can gradually
dimension the allopathic medication. In some cases, the
blood pressure becomes completely normal and you can
stop all the medication (while you advise your patient
nutritionally – salt, fat, etc.)
Heart drugs
If
there is a good amelioration on homoeopathic treatment,
you can let the cardiologist decide whether the
medication can be stopped or reduced.
Cortisone
More and more conditions are treated with
cortisone (steroids) in allopathic medicine:
Asthma, recurrent enteritis, allergic conditions, skin
eruptions etc.
Of all medications, cortisone suppresses or
paralyses the immune system the most. It suppresses all
the symptoms and that’ why this medication hardly
goes together with homoeopathy.
1. Possible situations:
If the disease already existed for a long time, if the
patient has been taking cortisone tablets for more than
one year, but if the homeopathic picture is clear, the
patient is strong, we can give the remedy in lower
potency and follow the successive doses accordingly. If
we had any amelioration, we will reduce the cortisone
gradually.
2. If the patient used to take cortisone and if he had
stopped this for a few months, we can treat the patient
with out any difficulty.
3. If the patient uses cortisone ointment, it is advised
to stop for at least one month. We can see him back
after one month and start homeopathic treatment.
FOLLOW –UP AFTER STARTING TREATMENT:-
In case of any aggravation, you must try to
differentiate between an aggravation from withdrawal of
cortisone and an aggravation from the homeopathic
remedy. In case of serious aggravation the patient
allowed to take allopathic treatment.
ANTI-EPILEPTIC:-
Never stop the medication suddenly: There is always a
danger of epileptic attack or even statue epileptics.
You are allowed to take anti-epileptic treatment during
homeopathic treatment.
You can only diminish or stop the anti-epileptics after
improvement is seen on EEG. It is advised to send these
patients back to a neurologist for a re-evaluation every
six months or every year.
ASTHMA DRUGS:
Concerning the use of cortisone, this information can be
applied to the asthmatic patients who use cortisone.
If the asthmatic patient has only been taking cortisone
for a short time, it can easily asked to stop or reduce.
Thephylline and non-cortisone-inhalers do not antidote
the homeopathic remedy significantly and can be taken if
necessary.
In a good result, anti-asthamatics can usually be
reduced or stopped.
In case of an aggravation of the asthma after a
homeopathic remedy, you can easily give allopathic
medication to stop the attack. However it is advised not
to take the medication routinely but only when
necessary.
PSYCHO-ACTIVE MEICATION:-
Tranquillizers cause little or no problem to homeopathic
treatment.
Strong neuroepileptics (Psycho-active medication) can be
a problem. As they obstruct the homeopathic action.
A
psychosis is a serious psychological disturbance by
which the patient has lost contact with reality.
Psychotic patients usually show delusions. Allopathy
will usually prescribe neuroepileptics in a case of
psychosis. These patients should be treated in
psychiatric institution. Nowadays, it is difficult to
treat them homeopathically in our society
Anti-diabetic Medication:-
Diabetic patients who are given insulin injections can
almost never stop the insulin with homeopathy.
Concerning diabetes in adults who need oral
hypoglycemic medication: It is often possible to reduce
or to stop the medication in addition to ameliorating
their complaints. Have the blood sugar checked and let
the patient follow a strictly sugar free and low-fat
diet. You can only allow the medication to be reduced
when the blood sugar decreases. Usually, the other
complaints will disappear quicker than the blood sugar
level decreases.
Concerning diabetes in young people and children who
need insulin: we never seen as a cure of juvenile
diabetes. Sometimes, it is possible that the
insulin-dose can be reduced. However, we will usually be
able to help these patients on the psychological level
and to ameliorate their complaints.
PAIN KILLERS:
Usually, painkillers only partially antidote the
homeopathic remedy.
We ask the patient to stop taking the painkillers
regularly, only using them when necessary: in case of
aggravation or in severe pain.
CONTRACEPTIVE (BIRTH-control pills):
Homeopathy is against the use of the contraceptive pill
during homeopathic treatment because the Birth control
pill antidote the treatment.
If the patient is open to other contraceptive methods
such as condoms. The rhythm method, I.U.D (intra uterine
device) or sterilization (tubal ligation or vasectomy
for their partner), you have to advice them of these
alternatives.
Thyroxine:
After thyroidectomy, you can not stop thyroxin.
If the thyroid gland is still present and the patient
feels generally better after homeopathic treatment, we
can stop the thyroxine without any difficult.
Female hormones:
These can be best stopped without any problem.
Even after removal of the uterus and ovaries, the
patient will not usually get problems from stopping the
hormones.
Menopausal complaints can be helped very well with
homeopathically, even hot flushes.
Decalcification of the bones after the menopause can be
easily helped with homoeopathy too.
Vitamins and Minerals:
These substances do not antidote and can be taken
without any problem.
However, natural vitamins in the food are still
healthier than the chemical vitamin tablets.
Anti-Tubercular drugs:
We allow the patient to take anti-tubercular drugs for a
certain time. If the patient feels generally well and
the examination of the sputum is negative (i.e. the
patient is not contagious anymore) the use of
anti-tubercular treatment can be stopped.
Antibiotics
Aside from cortisone, antibiotics are the medication
which suppress the defense mechanism most. That’s why
they are not compatible with homoeopathic treatment.
Usually homeopathic medicines work faster and better
than antibiotics, and you will rarely need antibiotics.
Only in cases of emergency should it be necessary to let
the patient take antibiotics. It is better to prescribe
antibiotics when your patient is very ill and not
reacting well with homeopathy.
Advice:
When a patient feels well one or another treatment, even
when it is an allopathic one, or a curious one to us, do
not change it, our first concern is the patient’s
well-being, not proving that our theory is right.
